AC Repair Company
Any malfunction of your air conditioner is a nightmare during the Texas summer. If your AC fan breaks, call on a technician from Thayer Air Conditioning quickly.
An air conditioning system without a working fan is known as a broken air conditioning system. You’ll need swift AC repair to get your system back in working order.
The Two Vital AC Fans
There are two fans in an AC system, one in the indoor unit and one in the outdoor unit, which are both essential for the air conditioner to work. If either breaks, you won’t have cooling.
The indoor fan is the blower fan, and it’s responsible for sending cooled air around the house to the various room vents. The blower fan also sends the warm air it draws through the return ducts across the evaporator coil to cool it down in the first place. Without this fan, no air will come from the vents and the house won’t have cooling.
The outdoor fan is responsible for letting the air conditioner release heat. This is the heat it has removed from indoors, which has to go someplace. The fan draws air across the condenser coil to allow it to release heat, and the fan then exhausts it. Without this fan, the indoor unit of the AC will not be able to cool down the air.
Why These Fans May Stop Working
There are several reasons why an AC fan might fail. Our team has seen every manner of AC repair here in New Braunfels, so you can rest easy that we will pinpoint the root cause of the issue. Some of the most common causes are explained below.
Tripped Circuit Breaker
The first thing to check whenever an AC fan stops running is the electrical panel for the house. The motor for the fan may have overloaded the circuit. If you flip the circuit back on, and the fan trips it again, call for repair technicians.
Failed Capacitor
The capacitors send voltage to the motors to start them and keep them running. The capacitors for the two AC fans will eventually wear out (the outdoor ones probably first, since they’re affected by high heat) and need to be replaced. Don’t try to replace them yourself, since this can be hazardous if done wrong. Call technicians to take care of it.
Failed Contactors
Contactors control the voltage flow on a motor. If the contactor breaks or becomes dirty it won’t close, and the motor won’t run. Technicians from Thayer Air Conditioning can replace the contactor.
Burnt-Out Motor
A motor that overheats because of too much friction (often an effect of lack of maintenance) will burn out when its wires melt and fuse to the casing. This can’t be fixed — technicians must put in a new motor.
Broken Or Loose Fan Belt
Newer ACs don’t have fan belts but instead use direct motors. An older air conditioner may have a fan belt break or slip loose. We don’t recommend doing repairs for this problem – the air conditioner is probably long overdue for a replacement.
